Thrushstone Park

In 1240 a manor house was built on the site of Thrushstone Park, near the village of Marnemouth on Ribble and served as home to the seat of the Earls of Trentham. Over the years of the Trentham’s occupancy the house was expanded, and the area around the house was developed into lush gardens. The family lived there until the male line died out.

It was in the 1580’s, after sitting empty and unused for some time, that the old manor and surrounding land was purchased by Sir Kenton Fell. He transformed the house into a typical East Anglian Tudor-Jacobean mansion and continued to expand the house.

Thrushstone Park

Fell’s descendants lived happily on the estate until the 1830’s when his last remaining kin sold the property in favour of moving to a house in London. It was purchased in 1834 by the newly elevated Battersly family who renamed it Thrushstone Park, and worked feverishly to restore the expansive gardens to their former glory.

The Dower House

The Dower House

Nearer to Marnemouth on Ribble, a neoclassical manor house was purchased for Lord Ribble’s mother to reside in after the death of her husband. This would become the Thrushstone Dower House, and would become renowned, in its own right for its hilltop views of the River Ribble.

Formerly the home of a aged Baron and his family, the Thrushstone Dower House is neatly suited for entertaining as well as for peaceful relaxation.
